In collaboration with Tipperary Town Revitalisation, I had the privilege of designing the layout and graphics for this Tipperary Town Directory of Services booklet. This comprehensive directory provides information and contact details for all of the statutory and community organisations operating in Tipperary Town, as well as some regional services across County Tipperary
To meet accessibility needs, the directory was developed in two formats: a print version and a digital online version. The online version includes a downloadable PDF of the booklet and the services in plain text. The online version also features interactive Google Maps that list all the included services with their contact details. A QR code is conveniently placed on the back cover of the print version to ensure users can instantly access or share the online version anytime.
Thoughtful Design for User Accessibility and Experience
Throughout this project, the focus was to create a services directory that is both functional and visually appealing:
- Easily Identifiable Icons: A set of custom icons was designed for each service type to help ensure quick recognition and easy navigation.
- Colour-Coded Sections: A CMYK colour palette was devised, using bold block colours on the side of each page to make each section distinct and intuitive to locate.
- Readable Typography: The Lato font was chosen for its clean, modern style and excellent readability, making the content accessible for a wide audience, including those with visual impairments.
- Abstract Cover Design: The front cover features an abstract composition that embodies concepts of information, data, community, and networking, which reinforces the purpose of the booklet.
These design decisions were guided by a commitment to making this directory practical and easy to use for people, regardless of their familiarity with the content.
Collaboration and Community
This project was in collaboration with Tipperary Town Revitalisation, who we have worked with in the past. Their local knowledge and insights into community groups and public services formed the content and structure of the booklet. Helping to translate their vision into a functional resource for the Tipperary town community was a rewarding creative challenge.
Bringing It All Together
One of the key features of this project was the seamless integration between the print and online editions. By creating physical and digital formats, we ensured that the directory is both adaptable to modern media trends and has longevity. The physical print version can also be a touchpoint for many of the local community groups.
The integration of Google Maps and a QR code transforms this directory into a dynamic, user-friendly resource. It demonstrates how traditional media can be augmented through digital innovations.
